The RPG & DB2 Summit - Spring 2013

The 13th RPG & DB2 Summit got off to an (overly) exciting start as storms and tornados hit Atlanta, delaying flights and obstructing travel. But this group was determined! Despite extra travel time, everyone gathered bright and early on Tuesday - some needing more coffee than others - but all ready to jump into learning mode.

Check out our photo gallery for a pictorial tour of the week.

Everyone was thrilled to see Scott Klement onsite, his first speaking gig after months of hospitalization and physical therapy. This amazing man powered through a 4-hour seminar plus several sessions, living up to his new motto: DFTBA (Don't Forget to be Awesome!) Special thanks to wife Tracy and son Alex for accompanying him. Read more about Scott's story here.

We also welcomed keynote speaker Alison Butterill, IBM i Product Manager, who demonstrated IBM's commitment to the IBM i in several ways, including a chart showing release cycles extending to at least 2026. Keep an eye open for the next OS release come....oh.....let's say early 2014.

Just for fun, we gathered together Tuesday evening for a reception, dinner, lots of door prizes and some laughs. To help celebrate Susan Gantner's 29th birthday (yet again!), Paul Tuohy enlisted the help of the audience and his magic skills to produce a gift card to her personal mecca, Best Buy.

Leadership mentor Mike Cain led us in an animated discussion (no whining allowed!!!) on how each of us can give the IBM i - and our own skills - the visibility they deserve within our own organizations. So many things... talk about what the i does well, create a positive feedback loop with management, learn to say "yes, i can!", show the .NET folks how we do it on the i..... the list goes on. Feel free to use these iAdvocate Resources to help.

We hope to see you at the next Summit. Subscribe to our email alerts to get real-time notification on news regarding upcoming events and System i Developer freebies.
