The RPG & DB2 Summit - Fall 2010

Minneapolis greeted 149 enthusiastic IBM i professionals with sunshine and mild temperatures as they gathered at the Sofitel October 11-14, eager to learn and share the latest development tips and strategies at the RPG & DB2 Summit. Check out photos from the Summit here.

This group worked hard! Not only did they resist the sunshine and select a class for each time slot, but over 80% got up early to attend the optional Early Bird Sessions! Now that's dedication, even considering the compelling expertise of guest speakers Scott Klement, Kent Milligan, Mike Cain, Aaron Bartell, Barbara Morris, Bruce Vining, Tim Rowe and Gene Cobb.

Among the most-attended sessions: Top 10 Things an RPGer Must Know; Open Access for RPG; The Basics of Prototypes; ILE Static Binding Basics; and the perennial favorite, Debugging Tools for RPGers.

Barry, the attendee who traveled the furthest to join us, left behind this kind note. "I came a long way from Australia (at my own expense) and I could not have been happier with the whole Summit. From the speakers to the content, the Summit was an excellent value and I HIGHLY recommend it to any RPG developer."

Others seemed to agree. In fact, 93% of the attendees rated the overall Summit "Very Good" or above on the conference evaluation forms, with a full 60% rating it as "Excellent." And we would rate this Summit's attendees the same!

But it wasn't all work and no play. Lots of us vied for the esteemed "Developer of the Year" award and a cover photo opp with IBM Systems Magazine. On Tuesday, we chatted over hors d'oeuvres and a drink (thanks, KrengelTech!), enjoyed dinner together and won all sorts of prizes. On Wednesday we visited with vendors, saved 20% on MC Press books, won more prizes, gathered for an informal Q&A with the experts and experienced the Mall of America.
